materials overview

DESCRIPTION: Elastomers are long chain polymers capable of cross-linking via a process called as vulcanization. Vulcanization process cross-links the polymer chains by a chemical bond creating the elastic nature of elastomers.

Elastomers are described by family based on polymer used for formulation. Description of each type of family can be found by clicking individual material category on the right hand panel and are summerized per ASTM D1418 standard. Selection of correct rubber material and grade for your application is dependent on fluid environment, application temperature, pressures, static or dynamic, chemical compatibility, friciton, design parameters etc.

Parker and other suppliers of Darcoid maintains an extensive list of rubber receipes accumulated over the years. We have thousands of compounds used in all industries. We can improve your existing compound to better meet your specific needs or reverse engineer a lost rubber compound.
