What is an O-Seal?
Darcoid works with Parker which specializes in the design and manufacturing of high reliability sealing devices using a combination of various metals or plastic retainer materials with molded in place elastomer seals. As a group these sealing devices are called “O-Seals”. These unique, high performance seals are generally custom engineered to provide a specific sealing solution to a customer’s specific seal problem.

• What makes an O-Seal Work?
• Controlled Squeeze
• Resilience
• Constant Loading

Types of O-Seal Products:
Gask-O-Seal
Integral Seals
Fastener Seals (Stat-O-Seal, Lock-O-Seal, ThredSeal)
Metal Seals,

What is a Gask-O-Seal ?
Gask-O-Seal consists of a metal or plastic retainer plate with grooves in one or both faces into which an elastomer is molded to create the sealing element. The elastomer element may be either chemically bonded to the groove and / or mechanically locked in place by cross-holes in the retainer plate groove.

What is an Integral Seal?
The Integral Seal is essentially a “second generation” Gask-O-Seal. Still utilizing a metal or plastic retainer, the Integral Seal does away with grooves to retain the elastomer sealing element by chemically or mechanically bonding the elastomer to the edge of the retainer. The Integral design substantially reduces retainer thickness, allowing the Integral Seal to be used in retrofit situations in design having O-ring groove or flat flange surfaces.

What is a Fastener Seal?
Fastener Seals feature molded sealing elements in conjunction with a metal retainer. Fastener Seals employ “controlled confinement” principle where the metal retainer prevents the elastomer element from being compressed beyond its elastic limit and establishes a very stable alternate load path for fastener torque. As the metal retainer confines the seal element on its inside diameter, the elastomer is forced forward and against the fastener shank and the other surfaces. This geometry produces an effective and reliable sealing device suitable for vacuum through high pressure applications.

Stat-O-Seal – It is designed to seal under and around fastener heads and bolt shanks where the mating surfaces are smooth (without threads).

Lock-O-Seal – It is a two piece seal utilizing a compression controlling washer and a separate O-Ring to seal tube fitting bosses and other similar applications.

ThredSeal – It employs unique seal geometry which allows it to seal very effectively on the thread roots of threaded fasteners.

What is a Metal Seal?
Metal Seals are tough, resilient, high performance; precision fabricated all metal sealing devices intended mainly for sealing separable, circular joint closures requiring:
Resistance to temperature and pressure extremes
Resistance to corrosive fluids and / or radioactive environments

Metal Seals are available in a number of different geometries, base metals, surface coatings and fillers depending upon intended service.
