The Situation
Our customer was dealing with moisture ingress in a utility box, impacting the reliability of a critical new power grid management program.
The Ask
Diagnose the problem and propose a solution.
The Solution
Our review and analysis concluded the incumbent seal design was unable to accommodate wide variances in flatness of mating gland components. We proposed a low closure force gasketing material with excellent long-term compression set resistance. We supported this with fast turn prototypes from our in-house cutting operation then drove down cost by designing a modular layout & assembly method to minimize scrap.
The Success
- When deployed in the field the improved environmental protection of sensitive electronics resulted in system-wide grid reliability
- Darcoid’s Performance Creep controls assure predictable seal performance regardless of influences inside and outside the supply chain
